Questions to Ask when Hiring a Plumber/Electrician

While some of us can easily do plumbing and electrical projects and repairs in our home, most people still choose to hire a professional to do it for them. Doing major plumbing and electrical tasks are generally complicated and hazardous, hence hiring a professional is always the better choice. But how do you choose the right service provider to take care of your home? Here are some tips.

  1. Are they trained?

As mentioned, doing major projects at home can be complicated, and sometimes, not very safe. Trusted companies make sure that their plumbers and electricians are well trained in delivering quality service. They update themselves of the current and advanced machines and tools and attend training courses on the country’s electrical code.

  1. Are they licensed?

Electricians are typically required to have a license, and one must have a currently active license in order to provide their service. Renowned companies also provide insurance, so the client will be covered in case something untoward happens.

  1. Are they specialized?

Find out what you want to be done, and see if you need a special service for those. Typically, electricians who work on large buildings and business do more extensive projects and would require more training and specialization. So if you are only after changing bulbs and switches in your home, you may want to contact someone else.

  1. Do they provide an initial quote?

No matter how small the task is, you are entitled to ask for a cost estimate from your provider. They must be able to supply you with this, as this will help you decide whether or not you will hire them. Normally, an initial estimate is free of charge. Other providers would also include a written proposal for the task, which includes the details of what needs to be done, including a timeline for the project. As a client, you should not shy away from asking these documents from your provider.

  1. How was the experience of their previous clients?

While license, insurance, and specialization are necessary considerations in hiring an electrical contractor, feedback from previous clients is as important. Look for reviews and references to see how their past works were. This is also the reason why asking for recommendations from someone you know might work very well to your advantage, as you have an idea on how the provider was based on an actual client’s experience.
